The clergy were expelled from Tynwald in 1776 — not by any Act, but by the Governor’s will alone. Hildesley completed the Manx Bible in 1772. Fourteen years after the Revestment, Manx was still the working language of the church.

The cultural world that had accommodated every previous arrival absorbed the Revestment too. Not by accepting it, but by outlasting it. The customs continued. The language endured. The identity that Parliament had tried to purchase turned out to be the one thing on the island that was not for sale.
