To His Excellency John Wood Esq^r. Gov^r. & Capt. Gen^l. of the Isle
of Man.

The humble Address of the Keys, being the Representatives
of the Inhabitants thereof.

May it please your Excellency,

His Majestys appointm^t of you to be his chief Gov^r. of this Isle is a
Circumstance most singularly welcome to us, who have experienced the
Wisdom & Justice of your Governm^t. As we are happy under his Majestys
Royal protection, so are we made easy by the strong assurances of his regard
which by his Majestys direction you have been pleased to communicate to us.

We beg Leave to assure your Excellency that it shall be our
constant Study to influence a just observance of the Laws, to cherish every
maxim that has a tendency to promote his Majestys Int^t. & the publick welfare
& to improve every advantage that may occur for the mutual Good of his
Majesty & the Inhabitants of this Isle, a good which must be ever inseparable
to make us happy.

You Sir, who are well acquainted with the people of this Isle
& their dispositions who know their obedience & can estimate their Loyalty
will we hope second our professions of Duty to his Majesty, and be kind
to forw^d our humble Address to him which herewith we recomm^d to your Care

On this occasion, may we be permitted to take notice of the
many publick accounts industriously raised & circulated for our disadvantage,
of large quantities of wool imported into this Isle & exported to France, of
abundance of Malt Liquors made here & clandestinely carried into great Britain
& other parts of the British Dominions to the great detrim^t. of his Majestys
Revenue, seemingly calculated to prejudice us in his Majestys good opinion,
