at the leaſt, nor unleſs ſuch Still ſhall have ſuit-
Tubs and Worms affixed thereto, and ſhall have ſuitable
bona fide uſed for the rectifying of Britiſh Spirits for
Sale.

XXVI. And, to the Intent that the Officers of Exciſe
may the more conveniently examine into, and give Proof
(if neceſſary) of the Strength and Quality of any Com-
pounds, Britiſh Brandy, or other Quality of any Spirits for Home
Conſumption, be it further enacted, Spirit for Home
may be lawful to and for the Officers of that it ſhall and
Times, to take Samples, not exceeding Four Gallons at all
reſpectively, of any Compounds, Britiſh Brandy, or other
Spirits whatever, upon Payment after the Rate of
Seven Shillings per Gallon for Britiſh Spirits, and
of Thirteen Shillings per Gallon for foreign Spirits.

XXVII. And be it further enacted, That no Maker,
Rectifier, or Compounder of Spirits, ſhall receive into
his Stock or Poſſeſſion any raw or unrectified Spirits
in any Caſk or Veſſel of a leſs Size or Content than
that of One hundred Gallons at the leaſt; no ſhall any
rectified or unrectified Spirits, or any Compounds, or
Britiſh Brandy, be received by any Diſtiller, Rectifier,
or Compounder, or by any Dealer in Spirits, at any
other Time than between the Hours herein-after men-
tioned; that is to ſay, from the Twenty-fifth Day of
March, to the Twenty-ninth Day of September, both
incluſive, between the Hours of Five in the Morning and
Seven in the Evening; and from the Thirtieth Day of
September, to the Twenty-fourth Day of March, both
incluſive, between the Hours of Seven in the Morning
and Six in the Evening; and when and ſo often as any
raw or unrectified Spirits ſhall be received in any Caſk
or Veſſel of a leſs Content or Size than ſuch as is before
deſcribed, or if any raw or unrectified Spirits, or any
Compounds, or Britiſh Brandy, ſhall be received at any
other Hour than as herein-before for that Purpoſe is li-
mited, ſuch Compounds, Britiſh Brandy, and other
Spirits, ſhall be ſeized and forfeited.

XXVIII. And whereas great Frauds are daily com-
mitted by Diſtillers fraudulently conveying Waſh into

their Stills, and the Officers of Exciſe are not ſuffi-
ciently enabled to diſcover the ſame, by reaſon of the
number of Pipes and Conveyances which communicate
with the Charging Pipe; now, the better to enable the
Officers of Exciſe to detect ſuch Frauds in future, be
it enacted, That no Diſtiller of Spirits, whether for
Home Conſumption or Exportation, ſhall, from and
after the firſt Day of October, One thouſand ſeven hun-
dred and eighty-four, have or keep any Pipe or Con-
veyance leading to his Waſh Still, ſave and except the
known Charging Pipe or Conveyance leading from his
known and entered Waſh Backs, and which
ſaid Pipe or Conveyance ſhall empty itſelf into a Shute,
Open Trunk, or Veſſel, at a Diſtance not exceeding Six
Feet from the Still, and of the following Dimenſions;
(that is to ſay), At leaſt Four Feet in Length, Two Feet
in Width, and Two Feet in Depth; from which Shute,
Open Trunk, or Veſſel, the Conveyance Pipe, into the
Waſh Still, ſhall be in a ſtraight Line; on Pain of for-
feiting for every other Pipe or Conveyance erected, ſet
up, kept, or continued, the Sum of Two hundred
Pounds: And, to the End that the Officers of Exciſe
may be able to take, examine, and aſcertain the Quality
of all Waſh, or other Liquors intended to be conveyed
into the Still or Stills of every Diſtiller or Maker of
Low Wines and Spirits, whether for Home Conſumption
or Exportation, ſuch Officers are hereby empowered, as
often as to them, or any One of them, ſhall ſeem expedient,
to take a Sample or Samples of the Waſh or Liquid
while in Fermentation, or during its Conveyance to the
Waſh Still or Stills, not exceeding Twelve Gallons
at any One Time, on paying after the Rate of One
Shilling and Sixpence per Gallon for the ſame.

XXIX. And be it further enacted, That all and every
the Clauſes, Proviſions, Reſtrictions, Powers, Autho-
rities, and Directions, enacted, provided, granted, and
contained in and by an Act of the Twelfth Year of his
Majeſty's Reign, intituled, An Act for the more effectual
preventing of Frauds in the Revenues of Exciſe, with re-
ſpect to Tea, Soap, Low Wines, and Spirits; or in and
