I have caused the fullest
Inquiry to be made into all the
Circumstances which preceded & attended
the death of William McChain, -
and the result of such inquiry, is,
that this unfortunate Man came
by his death in consequence of
excessive intoxication, & imprudently
stripping himself of his Clothes,
and remaining in that State for
a considerable time on the night
of the 17^th. of October 1823, thereby
bringing on a fever of which he
ultimately died -
(Signed) Atholl.
