The Articles of the Revenue of the Isle of Mann
with Explanations.

1. ........................Land Farm.

Which is the free-farm or Quit-Rents payable by the Land Owners to the Lords of the
Lords Isle out of every Parcel of Land of every Denomination, to wit; Quarterland, Particlos,
Intacks and Cottages, according to the Rent-Rolls on Record.

2. .........................Boon Services.

By the original Tenure every poſseſsor of a Quarterland (besides the rents
aforesaid and the Alienation fines after mentioned) annually paid to the Lords
"four Carriages" (that is to say, four days Service of Men and labour of horses)
and one day of the like Service out of every Intack and Cottage— A Statute
Law in 1645 Recites that they were used in the building and repairing of
Lords forts and houses— The Act of Settlement, Anno 1703 and the Explanatory
[margin: But M^r Aldridge says they are an Appurtenance to the Castles.] Act paſsed the Year following Enact "that these Carriages shall be taken to
the Lords Use as the Lords or Governors shall think fit to employ them".
Ever since these last Acts the Governors have had the sole Application of these
Services and employed them about the Castles, Governors houses, Gardens and
Demesnes or to his own private Use So that these Boons were never brought into
Account as an Article of the Revenue. —A

3. .......................Mill farm and fresh Water fishing

These are also Rents Certain payable in respect of the privilege of converting the
Rivers or Streams of Water and having certain Tenements bound to Suit and
Soaken at the several Mills, fourteen of which also pay annually a Hogg each
Lords besides the said Rent— The fresh Water fishing is the Rent paid for the
fisherys in the Rivers.

4. .......................Braſs and Lead Farm.

These Rents arose out of brewing Coppers or Pans which the Lords in ancient
Lords times provided and farmed to a number of People at small yearly rents which were
aſseſsed upon their houses and so continues.

5. ........................The Moars Office and
The Coroners Office—

[margin: Quere if the Moars do not belong to the Lords] [margin: The Coroners to Crown] These Officers were annual and paid a certain fine or Composition to the Lords for
Lords their offices— Tho the Allowances made by the Lords for executing them
came to near the same Sum; yet it comes out thus in Charge annually.
