A large sandstone cist was discovered by W.M. Cowell in the haggard of White Strand Farm about 685 metres south of Knocksharry. The cist was opened by Cowley in 1924 but was found to have been previously opened and the cover lid removed, which is probably the slate slab now in the farmyard. The interior had been emptied of its contents and refilled with sand and earth. A photograph and details of the opening by Cowley were placed in a cylinder and sealed within the cist which was then re-buried. In 1932, Cowley recorded that 'A fine stone axehead was found many years ago lying on the surface of the brooghs above here, and in the fields behind the topmost peak are sometimes exposed cists of prehistoric burials'.
