An early medieval cross slab from Andreas parish church. St Andrew's Church, Andreas, houses a collection of eleven medieval Manx carved cross slabs. The best known of these, Thorwald's Cross, is dated to around 940 CE and combines a Christian cross with Norse imagery: a bearded human figure (interpreted as the god Odin) with a foot in a wolf's mouth and a bird at his shoulder, evoking the Ragnarok legend, alongside a runic inscription reading 'Thorvaldr raised (this) cross'.
