The old bridge across the Lake, Douglas, which is shown on the 1870 1:2500 scale Ordnance Survey map. It carried a path across the enclosed tidal "lake" from the Castletown Road to the heart of old Douglas at the western end of the inner harbour, and is thought to have resembled the surviving Crossag bridge at Ballasalla in form. The crossing predates 1820, when Captain John Washington criticised the enclosure of the "lake" by the then owner of the Nunnery estate. Traces of the bridge's abutments survived until around 1999, when they were removed during harbour works to install a water-retention scheme.
