A 19th century Wesleyan Methodist chapel is shown in the heart of the hamlet here on the 1870 1:2500 scale Ordnance Survey map. It no longer stands and the site is now a wooded parcel. This lineage of chapels at Ballaugh village began when the land was sold in 1778 to Thomas Clark, who conveyed it to a body of trustees on 19 December 1791; the first chapel built here proved too small and was enlarged with additional land in 1806. A new, second village Wesleyan Methodist Chapel was built in 1868, after which the earlier chapel building was repurposed as a Sunday school and hall.
