Built at Gretch Veg on land donated by Mr and Mrs Kewley and rebuilt in 1870, the Minorca Primitive Methodist Chapel served the Minorca area on the northern edge of Laxey for almost a century. By 1892 Minorca had become a station of the Liverpool Primitive Methodist District together with Baldrine and Baldhoon, with 136 members and its own resident minister (Rev Carr held that post around 1911); its biggest day came in 1911, when the Liverpool and District Synod met there and hundreds travelled over from England. A separate Sunday School building was added across the road in 1898. The chapel closed in 1966 when its congregation merged with the Laxey Wesleyan Chapel, after which the building served in turn as a Salvation Army Hall, a brush factory, and a builder's workshop, before later restoration into a private residence now known as The Old Methodist Chapel. A related community venue, described as 'The Hall at Minorca Methodist Chapel', still hosts local groups such as the Laxey & Lonan Community Choir - it is not established from these sources whether this is the 1898 Sunday School building or a separate survival.
