Black Dub, between roughly 8.8 and 9.3 miles, takes its name from a dark, boggy patch of ground next to the adjacent river valley ('dub' being a Manx/Scots dialect word for a pool or puddle). On the course it is a left-then-right sequence followed by a long sweeping left-hander carrying riders on from Laurel Bank into Glen Helen, and it is now a restricted, non-viewing area for spectators.
