Joey's Gate
Place
Joey's Gate is a right-hand kink on the Billown Circuit, just before the Ballabeg hairpin, on the outskirts of Castletown. It takes its name from a 1979 Southern 100 race, when Joey Dunlop overshot the line on the corner and rode straight on through an open farm gate into the adjoining field. The escape passed into local racing folklore and the corner has been known as Joey's Gate ever since.
