This small office stands near the main gate of Braddan Cemetery, the burial ground opened off Braddan Road after the Braddan Burial Ground Act of 1848 allowed the parish to acquire new land once the old Kirk Braddan churchyard filled up; the cemetery was later extended in 1898 and 1938 and is now the largest on the Island. The office building is recorded as an early commission of the architect and designer Mackay Hugh Baillie Scott, who went on to become one of the most influential figures of the Arts and Crafts movement both on the Isle of Man and internationally. The cemetery itself also holds a chapel with a Baillie Scott-designed east window and is the resting place of the celebrated Manx designer Archibald Knox.
