Number 1 Malew Street sits at the end of a row that, according to William Henry Cooper's account, was destroyed by fire around 1885, during his own schooldays, when it operated as a draper's shop run by Wood Brothers; the building was subsequently rebuilt by James Stowell. In more recent times the premises have formed part of a pharmacy occupying this corner of Malew Street, one of Castletown's principal shopping streets since the town's Georgian and Victorian heyday.
