The Old Court House on Main Road was originally built in 1766 at the request of Bishop Thomas Wilson and rebuilt in 1835, becoming the last working rural ecclesiastical courthouse on the Isle of Man, standing on the same plot as the neighbouring Mitre Hotel. Cases continued to be heard here until around 1950, after which the building found new life as a classroom, restaurant and social centre. A smaller structure to the rear served as the courthouse's cell, nicknamed the 'Black Hole', which was said to hold little more than the occasional drunk after fair day.
