The Legislative Buildings on Bucks Road, home to the Isle of Man's parliament, were built in 1855 to a Neoclassical design by architect John Robinson, originally as a bank. After the collapse of the City of Glasgow Bank in October 1878 left the building vacant, Tynwald acquired it in December 1879, installing the House of Keys chamber in the former banking hall on the ground floor and the Legislative Council in a first-floor room. Tynwald later commissioned an additional new building immediately to the northwest of the original. As the meeting place of Tynwald, the world's oldest continuous parliament, the complex remains the seat of the Isle of Man's government, with its Bucks Road entrance giving access to the public galleries on sitting days.
