Christ Church stands on Church Hill in Laxey and was built for, and largely funded by, the Great Laxey Mining Company at a cost of around £950, reflecting the mining company's central role in shaping the village during its Victorian boom years. It was designed by the architect Ewan Christian and was consecrated on 27 May 1856 by the Bishop of Sodor and Man, Lord Auckland. The church remains a prominent landmark on the hillside above the village that grew up around the Laxey mines.
