Milner's Tower stands on Bradda Head above Port Erin, built in 1871 as a memorial to William Milner, a manufacturer of fire- and burglar-resistant safes with strong Manx connections, who used his wealth to support poor Manx fishermen and other local charitable causes. Fittingly for a safe-maker, the tower was designed in the shape of a giant key and lock. The memorial was originally intended as a surprise, but Milner learned of the scheme and ended up contributing much of the construction cost himself. It is reached via Bradda Glen, on the stretch of the Isle of Man's coastal footpath (Raad ny Foillan) between Port Erin and Peel, and remains one of the most recognisable landmarks on the Island's west coast, appearing on Port Erin's own crest.
