This slender spire on Finch Road is the surviving remnant of the original St Andrew's Church, also known as the Scots' Kirk, built around 1832 for Douglas's Presbyterian congregation. When the Presbyterian and Congregational churches united to form the United Reformed Church in the 1970s, the resulting congregation moved to a new church in the north of Douglas beside St Ninian's, and the old Finch Road building became too costly to maintain. Most of the church was subsequently demolished to make way for the St Andrew's House government office block, but its tower and spire were retained, leaving the spire standing today as a freestanding landmark on the site of the former kirk.
