The Gate House at Ballasalla railway station was built when the Isle of Man Railway's southern line opened in 1874, originally serving as the crossing-keeper's lodge for the level crossing beside the station. It was extensively altered in 1963 to house the mechanism for the station's mechanical crossing gates, which have since been decommissioned; the original crossing-keeper's house across the road was later demolished and replaced by a private residence. The Gate House itself still stands today and is currently used for storage.
