The stone-built water tower at Ballasalla railway station dates from 1902 and remains in working use today, historically supplying water for the steam locomotives of the Isle of Man Railway. For four decades, from 1979 to 2019, the station's name was displayed in lettering on its tank, periodically removed and reapplied during maintenance. It was added to the Isle of Man's Protected Buildings register around 2019 in recognition of its historical importance.
