This is a K6-model telephone kiosk, the classic red cast-iron design created in 1935 by the architect Sir Giles Gilbert Scott to mark the Silver Jubilee of King George V. First deployed from 1936, the K6 was the earliest red telephone box rolled out nationally rather than confined to London, with thousands installed across towns and villages, including on the Isle of Man, where Manx Telecom has continued to use the traditional red livery associated with the design. Many K6 kiosks elsewhere have since been withdrawn from service, but around 2,000 have been given listed or protected status for preservation; this example at Patrick Corner, in the heart of Patrick village, is one of the Island's own protected examples.
