The Mitre, on Main Road facing the Old Court House, dates from 1789 and is reckoned locally to be the oldest pub on the Isle of Man. Local pub history holds that it was once frequented by Fletcher Christian, the Manxman who led the mutiny on the Bounty in the South Seas that same year. Sitting directly on the TT Course, the pub is especially busy during race meetings, and today it is known for its exposed beams, open fire, home-cooked food and beer garden with sea views.
