This farmhouse stands at Balladoole, a short distance from Castletown, on a site whose surrounding landscape is one of the Isle of Man's most significant historic monument areas: nearby Chapel Hill has yielded a Bronze Age burial, an Iron Age hillfort, the remains of an early Christian keeill chapel, and a tenth-century Viking boat burial, all excavated in the 1940s by the German archaeologist Gerhard Bersu while interned on the Island during the Second World War.
