John Joseph Kneen (12 September 1873 - 21 November 1938) was a Manx linguist and scholar born in Douglas, renowned for his authoritative works on Manx grammar and on the island's place names and personal names, published in the 1920s with Tynwald funding. He helped form the Manx Language Society in 1899 and produced an improved edition of Cregeen's 1838 Manx dictionary, as well as translating the Manx national anthem into Manx. In recognition of his scholarship he received an honorary Liverpool University MA in 1929 and was knighted into Norway's Order of St Olav in 1934 for his work on Manx Celtic-Norse history.
