Barry Alan Crompton Gibb (born 1 September 1946 in Douglas) is a singer-songwriter and the eldest of the Bee Gees, one of the best-selling music groups in history. Born on the Island before his family emigrated first to Manchester and then Australia, he co-wrote hits performed by the Bee Gees and by artists including Barbra Streisand, Dolly Parton and Diana Ross, and was knighted for services to music. The Bee Gees are commemorated in Douglas by a bronze statue unveiled in 2021 near their birthplace.
