Sir Norman Wisdom (4 February 1915 - 4 October 2010) was an English comedian and actor, famous for his 'Norman Pitkin' film character, who settled on the Isle of Man in later life and became closely associated with the Island as an adopted Manxman. He was knighted in 2000 and was a familiar, well-loved presence at Manx public events, from Douglas town-centre openings to school sports days, until his death on the Island at age 95. A statue of Wisdom stands in Douglas in his memory.
