Philip Moore Callow Kermode (1855-1932) was a Manx naturalist, lawyer and pioneering archaeologist who catalogued and drew the island's Celtic and Norse crosses and was admitted to the Manx Bar in 1878 despite being largely self-taught in archaeology. A founding member of the Isle of Man Natural History and Antiquarian Society in 1879 (its president from 1884), he became the first Director of the Manx Museum on its opening in 1922, a post he held until his death; he was buried at Maughold, where a memorial to him was later unveiled.
