Hugh Stowell (3 December 1799 - 8 October 1865) was a Church of England clergyman born in Douglas, the son of the rector of Ballaugh, who was educated at St Edmund Hall, Oxford before becoming a prominent evangelical preacher in England, ultimately serving as rector of Christ Church, Salford, from 1831. He was a prolific hymn writer, best remembered for 'From Every Stormy Wind That Blows' (1828), and was appointed an Honorary Canon of Chester Cathedral in 1845.
