Annie Dorothy Bridson

Annie Dorothy Bridson (1893-1985) was a Manx schoolteacher, educated locally and at Ripon Training College, who became head mistress of St Mark's School and a founding member of the Manx Labour Party in 1918. In 1922, aged 29, she became the party's first woman president, and after wartime service in the Women's Royal Naval Service she was elected to the House of Keys for Garff in 1951, becoming only the second woman ever to sit in that chamber, before retiring from politics in 1956.
