Yn Chruinnaght ('the gathering') is the Isle of Man's inter-Celtic cultural festival, celebrating Manx music, language and links to the other Celtic nations. Its forerunner, Cruinnaght Vanninagh Ashoonagh, was founded in 1924 as an idea of William Cubbon, second Director of the Manx Museum, and was a festival of Manx culture alone. Folklorist Mona Douglas reshaped it into its modern inter-Celtic form, first held on 21-25 August 1978, bringing together participants from Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Cornwall, Brittany and the Isle of Man; it is now based in Peel and includes concerts, ceilis, workshops and a lecture.
