Ronaldsway, beneath what is now Isle of Man Airport, is the type-site of the Late Neolithic 'Ronaldsway Culture', a distinctive way of life known only from the Isle of Man and dated to around 2200-1900 BC. Excavated in difficult conditions during airport expansion in 1939-40, the site produced a complex sub-rectangular sunken house along with Grooved Ware, incised slate plaques, and characteristic deep Ronaldsway-style pottery jars.
