Ballacorkish Mine

Place

Also known as the Rushen or South Foxdale Mine, Ballacorkish near Kirk Christ Rushen was one of the more successful of the Island's smaller mines, raising lead and zinc from three shafts reaching a depth of about 140m (459ft). Recorded as a working lead mine on the 1868 Ordnance Survey map, it closed around 1895 as cheaper imported ore made it uneconomic.
