Beckwith's Mine, Glen Rushen
Place
Beckwith's was a lead mine in Glen Rushen, opened in 1831 after a lump of lead was found in a hay cart's track, and worked by the Isle of Man Mining Company until 1879. It struggled throughout with severe underground flooding, especially when sinking its engine shaft. Ruined engine houses, a chimney and other mine buildings still stand beside the Glen Rushen road, part of the wider Manx Mining Trail through the valley.
