Built in 1886 as the terminus of the narrow-gauge Foxdale Railway, a branch line constructed to serve the district's rich lead, zinc and silver mines, the station closed in 1940 as the mining industry collapsed. The building later served as headquarters for the Manx Flux & Mica Company and as a community centre before reopening in 2004 as the Foxdale Heritage Centre, telling the story of the village and its thirteen nearby mines.
