Founded in 1861 by Captain Richard Rowe, a Cornishman and former captain of the Laxey Mines, and built by engineer Robert Casement, designer of the Great Laxey Wheel, to harness the Laxey River for flour milling. The business, run for generations by the Corlett family, has survived three major fires and two world wars. Still producing flour from Manx-grown wheat today, it is one of the Island's oldest continuously operating industrial businesses.
