Laughton, a Manx songwriter of the middle of the nineteenth century.

Two of his pieces were collected in the Manx Society's Mona Miscellany. The Three Legs of Man, given there as by Mr J. B. Laughton and dated 1842, begins in the days of King Orry, when a ship in full sail was the ensign that Mona unfurled to her foes, and it curses the memory of Magnus who sold the Island. The other, attributed to J. R. Laughton, was prompted by the copper riots. When the new coinage was brought in, hostility to the innovation was such that serious riots broke out at Douglas and Peel and the military had to be called in to quell them, and Laughton set the business down in verse as a full true and circumstantial account of the row so dreadful and unproper that was raised about the copper.
