For Manx history Westminster appears principally as the place where disputes concerning the Island reached the Crown, Privy Council and Parliament.

William Christian attempted to appeal from Mann to the King and Council after his conviction for treason. A petition recorded in January 1663 asked that he be tried according to the laws of England, noting that he had lived there for many years and possessed property in Lancashire as well as in the Isle of Man. The Attorney-General reported that he might be brought before the Council and his offence pardoned. Christian had already been shot at Hango Hill on 2 January.

A royal order was subsequently sent to the Earl of Derby stating that Christian was to be brought up to be heard before the King and Council. The order arrived too late to prevent the execution.

The evidence pack contains many later Westminster references, but a large proportion are low-precision matches or material relating to the Statute of Westminster rather than the place itself. Only the directly Manx material has therefore been used here.
