Fingal, King of Mann, who held the Island against Godred Crovan's first two invasions.

The Chronicle of Man names him in the succession without ceremony: Godred was succeeded by his son Fingal, of whose reign and death nothing is recorded, and the date given is 1076, the year Godred died.

The fuller narratives give him one campaign. Godred Crovan, having judged from an earlier visit that the kingdom was weak or its king unpopular, came back with a force sufficient for his purpose and found his hopes frustrated, because Godred was dead and his son Fingal was seated on the throne and generally beloved. Godred Crovan landed his men all the same, was defeated in a general engagement, and had to retire. He came a second time and failed again. On the third attempt he joined fraud to force, landing three hundred men in the night, and that succeeded.
