Wooded hill above Ramsey, traditionally identified with Scacafell, the site of Godred Crovan's victory in 1079.

According to the Chronicle of Mann, Godred Crovan made three attempts to conquer the Island. On the first two he was defeated. On the third he landed again at Ramsey and concealed three hundred men in ambush on Scacafell, identified by later writers with Sky Hill.

The Manx army drew up against him. When fighting began, the concealed force descended from the hill and attacked the Manx from the rear while Godred's main body pressed them from the front. The Manx were defeated and Godred took control of the Island.

Later accounts placed the battle in 1079 and treated it as the beginning of the dynasty which ruled Mann and much of the Hebrides for almost two centuries. The Chronicle records that Godred subsequently divided the Island between his followers and the native Manx.

Sky Hill remained wooded in later descriptions, which helped explain the Chronicle's account of the ambush. Nineteenth-century writers used both forms, Scacafell and Sky Hill, when identifying the battlefield above Ramsey.
