The Rev. Thomas Quayle, Vicar of Kirk Onchan, and one of the clergy who put the Manx scriptures into their own tongue.

The division of the Old Testament among the Manx clergy under Bishop Hildesley is recorded book by book, and the first book of Kings fell to him. Samuel Gell, Vicar of Kirk Lonan, took the first book of Samuel and Joseph Cosnahan of Braddan the second. John Christian of Marown took the second book of Kings. Daniel Gelling of Malew took the first book of Chronicles and John Gell of Lezayre the second.

He appears among the improving landowners of the Island as well. A Thomas Quayle is named with Basil Quayle, J. J. Bacon, the Rev. John Crellin, the Rev. Daniel Gelling and others in the list of those who were bringing Manx farming forward at the end of the century, when a local newspaper remarked in 1793 that Basil Quayle's land afforded the best example of a complete farm carried on upon the system of the best cultivated counties in England.
