Mountain place-name in Braddan traditionally translated as Kinry’s Grave.

An eighteenth-century description of Braddan lists Lhiaght y Kinry among the parish mountains together with Archallagan, Greeba, Slieau Chiarn, part of Argole and Dreemlang.

The name was explained as Kinry’s Grave. According to the tradition recorded by Robertson, Kinry accepted a wager to run from Douglas to Bishopscourt and back again completely naked on a day of heavy snow.

He reached Bishopscourt but died on the return journey. The account states that, according to tradition, he was buried on the spot where he perished, giving the place its name.

The evidence pack contains only this single early description, so the identity of Kinry and the date of the supposed event cannot presently be established.
