The site of the 12th century church which stood here until the present church was built, according to this record, in 1869. Kirk Bride, the parish church, is dedicated to St Bridget; other sources describe its rebuilding as having been consecrated in 1876 by Bishop Selwyn to a design by the architect Joseph Henry Christian - the discrepancy in date has not been resolved from the sources checked. The rebuilt church contains an Adam and Eve stone, formerly part of the chancel floor and now set into an interior wall, one of only six such carved stones known in the British Isles. This record shares its mapped location with the separate Historic Environment Record entry 'Bride Church' (id 8321); the two entries most likely refer to the same church referenced at different periods (the earlier medieval building and its later rebuilding), though this has not been independently confirmed.
