Kentraugh Drying Green
Archaeology
The Ordnance Survey 1:2500 large-scale mapping published in 1870 shows a rectangular enclosure lined with bushes in one of the fields on the eastern edge of the Kentraugh estate. The enclosure was used to dry and bleach the domestic linen from the house after laundering (rather than in the course of textile manufacture).
The enclosure has been ploughed out but is still visible as a crop mark, measuring approximately 60 by 25m.
