Modern overflow leat.
The Ordnance Survey 1:2500 First Edition mapping of 1867-8 depicts an overflow leat, presumably governed by a sluice, leading from the main leat under the textile mill and exiting into the river close to the main road bridge.
The grid reference is located at the midpoint of the overflow leat for indicative purposes, at a point where it is joined by a modern drainage ditch.
